Modifications and new features make �Ļ�ӰԺ’s iPhone app a faster and more valuable resource.

Would you like to watch a video of a �Ļ�ӰԺ chapel service — or a recent campus lecture — on your iPhone? How about reading the latest issue of the �Ļ�ӰԺ magazine? Interested in calling a professor or staff member at the college? What about following a live sporting event? Owners of iPhones can now do all this and more thanks to �Ļ�ӰԺ’s updated iPhone app.

�Ļ�ӰԺ Information Technology has released an updated iPhone app (version 1.3) as part of the college’s commitment to being a leader in mobile applications for higher education. The new version offers clearer, faster and easier access to information about the college.

With the new app, users now have immediate access to hundreds of �Ļ�ӰԺ videos on iTunes U. In addition, the app streams up to 40 live �Ļ�ӰԺ athletic events per semester over both 3G and wireless networks. Not only will the current �Ļ�ӰԺ magazine be available, but so will the archives of back issues.

This is the third major update to the original iPhone app. The app was authored by Philip Walton, �Ļ�ӰԺ mobile and Web developer. “I completely rewrote the app from scratch,” Walton says. “Now it loads much faster, and it’s far more responsive.”

Other improvements include a campus map that allows users to zoom in to specific buildings. The faculty/staff directory has been redesigned and resembles the iPhone’s built-in �Ļ�ӰԺ list. The update also works with the iPhone 4’s higher-resolution display and includes several popular features found in other apps. �Ļ�ӰԺ’s iPhone app exists to provide easy access to information about the college. Since 2008, the number of iPhone and iOS devices on campus has grown from 50 to more than 1,300.
