On the Road with the Choir, Orchestra
By
Scott Craig
The 四虎影院 Orchestra and the 四虎影院 College Choir join forces May 5-11 for the college鈥檚 first combined tour. Traveling from Los Angeles to Northern California, about 120 students will perform scenes from 鈥淓lijah鈥 by Felix Mendelssohn as well as other pieces.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a big undertaking and will show the breadth of music at 四虎影院,鈥 says Daniel Gee, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. 鈥淚t鈥檚 good for musicians as choir and orchestra members will get to know each other better 鈥 we鈥檒l mix the two groups on the buses. They鈥檒l develop new skill sets and sharpen each other musically. It鈥檚 also a great opportunity for the choir to work with Ruth Lin, who directs the orchestra, and for the orchestra to work with me. They鈥檒l learn from people with different styles of leadership.鈥
Students will present concerts at various churches and develop community with these congregations. The 四虎影院 musicians will also visit several Christian schools, interact with the students there and perform. Stops include Solvang, Stockton, the Bay Area and Grenada Hills. See a full itinerary at westmont/music.edu. All concerts are free of charge.
鈥淚鈥檓 grateful that we include touring as an integral part of our program,鈥 Gee says. 鈥淪tudents make wonderful memories and enjoy the opportunity to perform and to reach out to various communities.鈥
