Rose Compass: Paintings of Santa Barbara’s Watershed is on exhibition at the ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº Ridley-Tree Museum of Art that features work by the six artists of the Rose Compass group. The many small paintings in the exhibit were done with this unique opaque watercolor medium.

Libby Smith and Nina Warner will demonstrate how you can use this medium to create colorful, small format paintings. They will cover color mixing, composition, sketching and blocking in your image and how to handle the paint. All levels welcome.

 

Materials provided by Instructors:

plastic palette

water media paint brush

water containers

Bristol paper

Archival watercolor board

paper towels

squirt of basic paint colors

 

Supplies you should bring:

pencil and paper for note-taking and sketching

Gouache paints if you have them

your own photo reference of a landscape (we will provide some extras)
